Many fertility medications are packaged in ampules, which are small sterile glass containers generally containing a single dose of medication.
The medication within the ampule may be a lyophilized (freeze dried) powder that needs to be reconstituted (dissolved or re-suspended) using the supplied liquid diluent.
The glass neck of the ampule is generally scored immediately under a marker (here a colored dot on the head of the ampule) to facilitate opening.
