The syringe is simply a device for withdrawing and injecting fluids. The syringe can be made of calibrated glass or plastic (plastic is more common since it is disposable). The syringe consists of a cylindrical barrel, a close fitting plunger at one end, and an opening at the other end (to which the head of a hollow bore needle is fitted).
Medication is pulled up into the barrel by suction as the plunger is withdrawn and injected under pressure as the plunger is pushed back into the barrel.
